As he said he didn't understand a word of it so he threw it in the waste bin which is probably what most sensible boat owners will do. I wonder how many who don't use email have received anything through the post from OFCOM? I doubt that anyone (let alone OFCOM) knows how many of the 60k + UK amateur licence holders are actually active but if it's even half of that number how many extra qualified staff have OFCOM employed to check on 'compliance' documents? If OFCOM have actually employed more staff how much is it costing? The freedom of Information Act might produce some interesting details ? This is ignoring the fact that I'm told that the very many thousands boat owners with licenced VHF marine installations also need to show compliance, I expect that most will do exactly what a friend did with the document which arrived through the post. Is there a single shred of evidence to show that over the past 120 years since Marconi's first translantic transmission anyone has ever suffered harm from effects of Radio Frequency Fields (HF or VHF) even at much higher power levels that will ever be found in an amateur radio environment ? (For around 150 years EMF has stood for Electromotive Force as anyone who has studied electricity or taken intermediate or 'advanced' RAE should know as it's in the syllabus and in all my text books! OFCOM seem to be pitifully unaware of this & seem to think that it means something else!) Why anyone like John should spend their own time doing this work just because OFCOM has come up with some new & unnecessary crackpot regulations is beyond me? It seems showing 'compliance' requires the use of a PC & use of spreadsheets? However there is nothing in the amateur licence which requires any licencee either to own a PC let alone be able to understand or use a spreadsheet? RSGB only has around 22,600 members so what do the other ~40k licensed amateurs who don't read Radcom know about the new regulations & despite what some people seem to think there's nothing in the amateur licence requiring anyone to supply OFCOM with an or to even have email address.
